GREETINGS!
Welcome to the official web-site of the Shreveport Medical Society. We are a non-profit physician membership association that has existed in some form in northwest Louisiana since the mid 1850’s. Our mission includes bringing into one organization the physicians of Caddo Parish and Red River Parish, to form, with other parish medical societies, the Louisiana State Medical Society; to secure harmony and unity in every phase of our members’ labor; to assist in the advancement of medical science, the elevation of the standards of medical practice, and the improvement of the health of the community which we serve; and, by all legitimate means, improve the social, economic, and professional status of our members.
We currently have over 600 members, including physicians in both the private and public sectors along with retired physicians, military members, intern/residents and fellows. We also have a medical student section with approximately 400 members.
The purpose of this web-site is to provide to members of the society and the general public information regarding the medical profession, membership services, association activities, and educational information regarding the practice of medicine and related issues that impact the delivery of medical care.
The Medical Society is supported by two separate but wholly owned subsidiaries, the for-profit SMS Services, Inc. which will operate and maintain the web-site with SMS member Dr. Bruce Williams serving as Chairman of the SMSS, Inc. Website Committee. The SMS Civic Assistance and Education Fund, Inc. operates as our non-profit charity to receive and distribute donations to community activities.
The Shreveport Medical Society has established a long history of active involvement in advancing the medical profession and advocating for patient care and choice. We always welcome constructive input on how we can be more effective in carrying out our mission and ways in which this web-site can become more useful and productive.
